Range Rules

4 Safety Rules

These rules must be followed at ALL times.
  • Treat all guns as if they are loaded.
  • Know your target and what is beyond.
  • Never point your gun at anything you are not willing to destroy, kill, mutilate or break (including yourself).
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until the target is clearly in your sights and you have made a conscious decision to shoot.

  • GATE: Each primary member must scan their key fob before entering the gate.
  • HYGIENE & ETIQUETTE: No smoking on the range.  Do not arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  No drug/alcohol use on the property.  Be respectful of all members and students at all times.  Do not take videos or pictures of other members without permission.
  • TARGETS: You may spray paint the steel any color you'd like.  Paper target stands are provided, however, paper targets are not.  Bring your own paper targets or cardboard as well as either a staple gun or adhesive spray.
  • AMMUNITION: NO tracer rounds, armor piercing rounds and no steel core ammo permitted.  Rounds larger than .308 caliber are NOT permitted for steel targets.
  • EYE & EAR PROTECTION: Eye and ear protection is mandatory at all times beyond the gate.

  • RESTROOMS: There is a porta-potty located at the entrance to the range for your convenience.
  • PARKING LOT: No handling of firearms in the parking lot other than to transport to and from the range.  Do not load or unload firearms in the parking lot.  Firearms must be unloaded before arriving.  Loading magazines in the parking lot is permitted.

RIFLE RANGE RULES

  • TRANSPORTING RIFLES: Keep rifle slung or in a case when walking to and from the rifle range.
  • STEEL: Steel CANNOT be shot any closer than the benches/tables with a rifle (approximately 100 yards).
  • HOT/COLD FLAGS: Place RED flag in cone when range is HOT.  Place GREEN flag in cone when range is cold, inactive or a ceasefire has been called.  When a ceasefire/cold/inactive is called and the green flag is in place, ALL shooters are to make their firearms SAFE, remove magazine, open action/bolt and not handle firearms until red flag is placed in the cone signifying the range is hot and no one is downrange.
  • SHOTGUN USE: For shotgun shooting, use the Rifle Range only.  Shoot shotguns at PAPER targets only.  Target stands are in place.  Paper plates and index card make for great targets.  Don't forget to bring a staple gun or adhesive spray.
  • MOVING & SHOOTING ON THE 100 YARD RIFLE BAY: Moving and transitioning for rifle to pistol is permitted at the stationary paper target stands that are placed at the backstop.  Do not move target stands.  THIS IS ONLY PERMITTED IF YOU ARE USING THE RANGE ALONE.  If another member enters to shoot, you must work together and shoot from the same firing line.
  • MOVING & SHOOTING ON THE 50 YARD RIFLE RANGE: You can move and shoot on the 50 yard rifle bay.  This bay is first come, first served.
  • PISTOLS ON RIFLE RANGE:  Pistols on the rifle range are permitted but do not shoot the steel with a pistol any closer than 10 yards, however, pistol use on steel that has been shot at by rifles is NOT recommended due to pitting on the rifle range steel.
  • DOWNRANGE AFTER DARK:  For safety, when moving downrange at dusk or after dark, please wear a glow stick AND have a light (flash light, headlamp, etc) turned on and with you so that approaching members can see your position downrange.

Pistol Pit Rules

  • PISTOLS ONLY: No long guns permitted for use on the pistol pits.  Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC) are allowed on the pistol ranges and can be shot at steel 10 yards or further.
  • STEEL: Shoot steel from 10 yards away or further while firing with your pistol.  This is for your safety and the safety of other members.
  • HOLSTER USE:  Impact Shooting Center is a HOT range.  This means you can have your gun loaded at any time but must remain HOLSTERED until you are on the firing line.  Soft-sided holsters NOT recommended.
  • UNHOLSTERED PISTOLS : If you are shooting a gun without a holster, gun must be unloaded with the action open when moving to and from the firing line.  Gun should only be loaded and unloaded at the firing line with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
  • .22 RIFLES: Children under 18 ARE permitted to use .22 caliber rifles on the pistol pits.
  • REARRANGING TARGETS/WALLS/BARRELS: Targets can be rearranged in the CLASSROOM/COMPETITION PITS ONLY (bays 7 & 8).  Targets in other pits cannot be moved.
